MANILA, Philippines — Work operations at the House of Representatives will be suspended for two days amid the “alarming” rise of COVID-19 cases particularly in Metro Manila.

In a memorandum, House Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza said work will be suspended until Wednesday, March 24.

Plenary sessions will resume on Thursday, March 25, at 9 a.m.

“For the period of suspension, however, offices such as the Office of the Secretary General, Finance Department, Engineering Department, and the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms/Legislative Security Bureau hall maintain skeletal forces within their respective departments to ensure continuity of basic services,” Mendoza said.

As of March 18,  there are 33 active cases of COVID-19 among members and staff of the House. This count, however, only includes those who tested positive for COVID-19 in the testing being conducted in the House.

Those who were tested outside Batasang Pambansa were not included.
