A 16-year-old boy on a bicycle was killed after he was hit by a speeding SUV at 6:45 a.m. yesterday along S. Osmeña Road at the North Reclamation Area in Cebu City.

The victim, Jonas Inot, a native of Getafe, Bohol and was living in barangay Pasil in Cebu City, died instantly.

Arnold Nahera, the driver of the Mitsubishi Montero, was arrested and is now in police custody.
Traffic investigator, PO3 Edgar Baton, said Nahera, 47 of barangay Dumlog, Talisay City was on his way to Cebu City to drop off his daughter when the accident happened.

Police quoting the driver said it was too late for him to stop the vehicle when the victim allegedly swerved to the inner lane of the road near the Cebu International Port.

Nahera claimed his line of sight was blocked by other vehicles on the road and the victim was already five meters from him when he saw him on his path. The victim was thrown off his bicycle on impact.

The driver stopped and called for help. Responding paramedics arrived and declared the victim dead.

The victim sustained head and body injuries.

Police said the victim had earphones on and was apparently listening to music while riding his bicycle.

Police are waiting for relatives to claim the boy’s body from Sure Life Funeral Homes along N. Bacalso Ave.
