Ahong asks LTFRB to lower fare rates in Lapu-Lapu City

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has appealed to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-7 to lower the fare in public utility jeepneys and buses in his city.
Chan wrote a letter to LTFRB-7 regional director Eduardo Montealto Jr. for his appeal.
The mayor said that he wants to adjust the fare of jeepneys and buses after their passenger capacity has also increased to 70 percent.
“The City of Lapu-Lapu would like to appeal to LTFRB Region 7 to lower the prevailing fare rates. Since the pandemic, provisional fare increases have been approved to compensate for the limited passenger capacity for various PUVs,” Chan said in his letter.
“I believe it is only fair that fare rates should also be lowered for the benefit of the commuting public,” he added.
Currently, the minimum rate for traditional jeepneys is at P9 and P11 for modern jeepneys and non-airconditioned buses.
For air-conditioned buses, the minimum fare is P13.
Chan also said that he will ask the city council to increase the passenger capacity for tricycles and lower their minimum fare.
“Ang ubang tricycle nagpabayad ug P20, P30, so bug-at kaayo na sa atong sumasakay nato. Mao na nga atong gi-allow sila, naa pending karon nga they are requesting the tricycle nga three passengers. So mao na atong gi-compute kung pila ang pletehan,” Chan added. /rcg
