Cebu City Council to resolve committee revamp on Tuesday

The Cebu City Council will meet this coming Tuesday to discuss plans by Team Rama allies to call for a reorganization of committee chairmanships.

Acting Mayor Edgar Labella, the council’s presiding officer, said it won’t be healthy to publicly discuss this issue which he feels should be resolved internally.

“I want all of them to have an open discussion Tuesday next week,” he said.

Labella and Councilor Dave Tumulak admitted there were plans to pursue the reorganization of committees. “There is a plan for a reorganization,” Tumulak said.

Labella said whatever the outcome of Tuesday’s meeting, he reminded councilors to “abide by your oath of office.”

Pending

“Do what is good for the city and for the constituents because we owe our positions to them,” he said.

With or without committee chairmanships, Labella said councilors should continue to deliver basic services.

Team Rama is going after the budget committee chaired by Councilor Margot Osmeña and the laws committee chaired by Councilor Sisinio Andales.

Mayor Michael Rama’s supplemental budget 2 amounting to P500 million remains pending with the budget committee for review due to a dispute on the proposed fund sources.

A Team Rama insider said Rama’s consultant, Jose Daluz III is preparing the listing of committee chairmanships that the administration bloc would like to have.

At present only Team Rama ally James Cuenco occupies the chairmanship of the council’s tourism and international relations committee.

“Even without a chairmanship they could still function. With or without it will not make a difference,” Labella said.
