Deped reassessment of schools’ damage to cause more delays
The revalidation of the damage by the Department of Education in Central Visayas (DepEd-7) may still delay the repair and construction of new classrooms in northern Cebu to replace those destroyed by supertyphoon Yolanda last year.
Dr. Victor Yntig, DepEd-7 field supervisor, said the revalidation may affect or cause an adjustment in the allocated budget for the construction and repair of the schools.
He said the budget for the construction and repairs in northern Cebu is pegged at P735 million.
Money spent so far for the construction of classrooms in northern Cebu is P108.9 million and for Cebu Province, it is P20.1 million.
He said they will deploy 15 engineers next week for that revalidation in the 10 affected towns, which include Bantayan, Bogo City, Sta. Fe, Medellin, San Remegio and Daanbantayan.
He also said that DepEd is facing a big challenge to finish the construction and repair of the classrooms in these towns.
For Bogo City Division alone, as of Oct. 27, only 44 new classrooms have been completed and 88 are still being built out of the 160 classrooms to be replaced.
He said this means that there are new 35 classrooms that are yet to be built.
