Eala, new chairman, outlines plans for PSC
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Newly-appointed Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Noli Eala laid out his immediate plans following the official turn-over of office at the PSC Main Grounds in Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate, Manila on Monday, September 5, 2022.
Former PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez formally turned over the PSC flag to Eala to symbolize the passing of leadership in simple rites that was conducted right after the agency’s flag raising ceremony.
Also present were Commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo, members of the Management Committee, PSC heads, employees, and staff.
Eala will be the 11th PSC chairman since the government sports agency’s inception in 1990.
During his speech, Eala revealed some of his immediate plans, which are mostly continuation of the previous PSC administration’s projects.
These included completing the PSC board membership since it has only been Coo, who was appointed PSC commissioner through President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Eala also wants to ensure to complete the mandate of the PSC and all national athletes getting prepared for the 2023 competitions.
In addition, he wants the continuation of PSC’s grassroots programs and wants to have extensive partnership with various agencies.
Eala also wants to provide national athletes their benefits and provide them all the support they will need for their success.
He also wants to start the selection of Project Gintong Alay’s best parts in a modernized way. Lastly, he wants to ensure equality in terms of support to regular and para athletes under PSC.
“I wish to thank Chairman Butch [Ramirez] for coming over today. He is someone I always believed to display the leadership of a true public servant. Quiet yet firm and dedicated. He just told me that he was there to help us. And what he has done for this commission will forever be remembered. Maraming Salamat po Chairman Butch,” said Eala.
Eala also thanked Coo and PSC officer-in-charge Lawyer Guillermo Iroy for taking charge of the agency in the past few months.
“Four years of working, two years disturbed by the pandemic. It was a meaningful journey. Chairman Noli Eala needs our help, our support. For, if he succeeds, Philippine Sports Commission will succeed, and Philippine sports will succeed,” said Coo.
