Cepca vs women chessers

Members of the Cebu Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) will take on the best female varsity players in Cebu in a showdwon dubbed “Cepca vs Cebu Lady Varsity Players” chess tournament this Sunday starting at 2 pm at the Handuraw Pizza in Gorordo.

No less than former Cebu City Mayor Alvin Garcia will banner the Cepca selection.

Also in the Cepca line-up are Boojie Lim of Rose Pharmacy, Andrew Aznar of Southwestern University, Cepca president Jerry Maratas and Cepca co-founder Boy Pestaño.

Completing Cepca roster are Ben Dimaano, Marvyne Guardiana, Jojo Muralla, Ruel Hortelano, Alex Tolentino, Jennoh Tequillo, Jun Olis, Nic-nic Climaco, Eduard dela Torre, Therese dela Torre, Jun Kidlat, Tony Barade, Felix Balbona and John Velarde.

The Cebu Lady Varsity Selection, on the other hand, is composed of Shaira Monsalud, Jessa Balbona, Aireen Robillos, Queenelyn Torres, Kylene Eumague, Marvie Abucay, Venice Lumapac, Queenie Cablao, Diana Ross Pabatang, Jazeele Villarin, Stephanie Sabanal, Sarah Jane Dabalos, KC Morala, Jane Mae Conag, Laila Nadera, Ziella Aroja, Charah Cababan, Rowena Padro and Glysen Derotas.

The mini tournament will be played over 19 boards with two games per match (Black/White) and with a time control of 30 minutes for each player to finish the game.

Monsalud of the University of San Carlos (USC), joined the Cepca 2014 Monthly Qualifying for October where she finished the tournament without a single loss and was crowned Top Lady player with Robillos and Morala grabbing the 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.
