The Cebu One Zonta Club Foundation Inc. has taken to running to further strengthen its crusade against violence against women and children.

On Nov. 23, the club will hold the “Run For Zonta Says No” race as one of the highlights of the international month for anti violence against women and children and at the same time establish its second crisis intervention referral center here in Cebu.

The center will answer the needs of women and children who are victims of domestic violence by providing support services such as legal assistance, shelter, medical and psychological counseling.

Funds raised through the run will be used to build the center.

Cebu One Zonta Club Foundation Inc. was founded on November 1968 and has been an active NGO of women executives and professionals to help empower women. The club is part of the Zonta International.

The Cebu province and Cebu city governments last month passed a resolution designating November as the official Zonta Month.

“We are doing a lot of campaigns, we had a recent forum in different universities here in Cebu because the incidence of violence against women and children increased last year. We at the Zonta are doing our best to help those who are in need,” said Cebu One Zonta Club Foundation Inc.

President Nellie Chiu during yesterday’s race launch at the Choobi-choobi Restaurant in Mabolo. “We are calling on all runners to join our cause.”

Chiu was joined by race director Raffy Uytiepo, technical director Presing Capangpangan of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), Zonta Month chairwoman Beverly Dayanan and Cebu One Zonta officers Emily Benedicto-Chioson and Melanie Ng.

Distances to be competed are 10-kilometer, 5k and 3k with P70,000 in cash to be awarded to the top five placers in each category.

Organizers are hoping to draw 2,000 runners. Registration fee is pegged at P300 for the 3k, P400 for the 5k and P500 for the 10k inclusive of race shirt, bib and post-race refreshments.

Registration is going on at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC), RUNNR Ayala Center Cebu, HP Store brances in SM City and Ayala Center and at my My Pet Station in Mabolo.
