Cabinet officials visit Daanbantayan town, assure shelter aid

roxas and vendorA few days after the anniversary of supertyphoon Yolanda’s devastation of Central Visayas, Cabinet officils led by Interior and Local Governments Sec. Mar Roxas visited typhoon-hit Daanbantayan, northern Cebu at past, Thursday.

Students and a few residents waved waved yellow flag as Roxas, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman, and Defense Sec. Voltaire Gazmin landed via chopper at the Daanbantayan National High School.

Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III and other provincial officials welcomed the national officials who first visited the relocation site of Habitat for Humanity in barangay Aguho.

The officials were updated on the rehabilitation work in Daanbantayan and other towns hit by Yolanda.

Roxas and the Cabinet officials joined in  a short program at the Daanbantayan Sports Complex where they announced before 2,000 residents that the emergency shelter assistance will be given before January 2015.

Soliman told the residents that P10,000 will be given out to typhoon survivors whose houses were partially damaged and P300,000 for damaged homes.

Daanbantayan is one of the 10 local government units in Cebu that hasn’t received the emergency shelter assistance yet.

Roxas said another P130 million will be released to Cebu to repair barangay-owned structures. After meeting the residents, Roxas and the Cabinet officials met with local officials at the town hall.
