La Salle coach says team must get used to playing on the road

In spite winning two games that gave them a head start in the race for the finals of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL), La Salle head coach Juno Sauler did not look the least bit thrilled, or so it seemed.

In his usual deadpan demeanor that he has become known for as much as his coaching acumen, Sauler admitted to Cebu Daily News that it was important for his team to get used to getting away from their comfort zones and still find ways to emerge victorious.

And so far, the Archers have responded in the past few weeks, winning in Batangas during the Metro Manila-Luzon qualifiers and then here in Cebu in the Elite Eight stage.

“It’s always the same in every game. We played in Batangas and now, here in Cebu,” said Sauler. “We have to get used to playing in unfamiliar territory.” Sauler added.

In La Salle’s 74-64 victory over the University of the Visayas Green Lancers last Friday, which gave the Archers their second win in as many games and a share of the lead in Group A, Cameroonian big man Ben Mbala scored a game-high 19 points. But in spite of the 6-foot-7 forward’s lofty numbers, Sauler refused to heap praises on his new ward.

“He’s just like any other player on this team,” he said.
