Cebuano Sepak Takraw Club teams clobber foes in SMS-Boystown tourney

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebuano Sepak Takraw Club and the City of Naga Sepak Takraw Clubs cruised into the quarterfinals on the first day of the  Chooks-to-Go SMS-Boystown Sepak Takraw Open Invitational Tournament at the Sisters of Mary School (SMS) Boystown in Minglanilla town, south Cebu. 

This as, two Cebuano Sepak Takraw Club teams and two teams from the City of Naga Sepak Takraw Clubs beat their respective opponents in the elimination round.

Cebuano Sepak Takraw Club Team A defeated Argao,  Barili Sepak Takraw Association, Gutters Club Consolacion-A, and Aloysians-B in bracket B. 

Cebuano Sepak Takraw Club Team B edged Opon Sepak Takraw Association-B, San Fernando Sepak Takraw Association (SAFSTA) Alumni, and Compostela Sepak Takraw in bracket F’s elimination round. 

Meanwhile, City of Naga Sepak Takraw Clubs’ teams A and B also routed their respective opponents in the elimination round. 

Naga’s Team A won over D’ Juans Sepak Takraw Club of San Fernando and Gutters Club Consolacion-B. Naga’s Team B beat Naga Alumni, Aloysian A, Danao, and Toledo.

Expect a more action-packed quarterfinals as Naga and Cebuano’s team A will compete in one of the matches, so as Naga B and Cebuano B’s teams. 

The other quarterfinals match features Guindaruhan Sepak Takraw of Minglanilla versus Consolacion Headers Club, Mandaue Sepak Takraw Association verus Lilo-an Sepak Takraw-A, 

Gutters Club Consolacion-B will go up against Barili Barili Sepak Takraw Association, and Compostela Sepak Takraw against Danao Sepak Takraw. 

Besides the quarterfinals, the semifinals and championship will also take place today. 

A total of 28 teams competed in the two-day sepak takraw competition organized by the SMS Boystown’s Aloysian Sepak Takraw Club Inc., Cebu Sepak Takraw Federation, and Chooks-to-Go. 

The main goal of the tournament is to develop more grassroots program in the Visayas region and contribute to the national team by sending high caliber Sepak Takraw players that will represent the Philippines in international tournaments, the same as Cebuano Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) veteran Rheyjey Ortuoste.
