MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — Left with just a few days before Christmas, various local government units in Cebu have already started to light Christmas trees and other decorations that are found on their town plazas to mark the start of their Yuletide Season’s celebration.

At the same time, they wanted to give their constituents hope as they celebrate Christmas and look forward to a better year ahead of them.

In Minglanilla town, Mayor Rajiv Enad led the opening of their “Pasko sa Minglanilla 2022” with the official switch on on Saturday night, Dec. 10, of the giant Christmas tree that is located on the town’s plaza.

In a social media post, Enad said they chose to have an “under the sea” theme for this year’s Christmas tree “kay ang Minglanilla sama sa dagat, kalma ug plain tan-awn sa ibabaw, apan inig adto sa ilawm, daghan diay kaayong nindot nga makita (because Minglanilla is like the sea, calm and plain to see on the surface, but under it there are many beautiful things that you can see).”

He wanted their Christmas tree to be a symbol of hope for the distressed families as he also made a promise to give his constituents “better and brighter things coming for the town.”

In Argao town, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia led Saturday night the switch on of their Christmas tree that is found on the town’s unity plaza.

The town’s Christmas tree is 40 feet tall and is designed with the famous torta of Argao along with some roses, bright lights, and the traditional parol.

“Ang Christmas tree maoy simbolo sa Pasko, ug ang Pasko maoy simbolo sa paglaom ug pag-bangon,” Mayor Allan Sesaldo said in his message.

(The Christmas tree is the symbol of Christmas, and Christmas is the symbol of hope and rising up.)

(Three years have passed and from what we have experienced, it is but great and sweet to see the beautiful Christmas tree.)
