A baby boy was hacked to death by his cousin who is suspected to be a drug user in Toledo City, midwest of Cebu, Monday morning.
Jocelyn Jimenez was feeding her nephew, Gilbert Jimenez, in her house in barangay Media Once when suspect Ernie Segarra, 22, suddenly arrived with a bolo.

Without saying a word, Segarra allegedly attacked the baby hitting his head and neck.

Gilbert  fell on the floor and died instantly.

Jocelyn, who was shocked, ran outside to ask for help.

Ernie also tried to escape, but was chased by neighbors and barangay tanods who managed to arrest him.

PO2 Allan Alquiza of Lutopan police station said Gilbert, who was supposed to turn two years old next month, was left under the care of Jocelyn while his mother, Artemia, is in Cebu City working as a house help.

Artemia is Jocelyn’s sister and is a single mother.

Alquiza said Ernie was not coherent when they interviewed him but he admitted that he is a drug user.

He was also talking to himself while inside the detention cell.

Another police officer, PO3 Alfredo Barquin, said he talked to Ernie’s mother who admitted that her son would lose his sane mind if he skips meals.

A murder case was filed against Ernie yesterday.
