JVR: Prove my son is corrupt

By: Michelle Joy L. Padayhag January 31,2015 - 12:13 AM

TALISAY City Mayor Johnny V. Delos Reyes is open to the idea of having his son and city administration John Yre Delos Reyes step down from City Hall if his critics can prove he is corrupt.

But he challenged the City Council to provide indisputable evidence and documents to prove that his son is corrupt and then file charges.

“If it’s proven, then I have no choice but to tell him to step down. You can even sue him.  I will not sacrifice the welfare of Talisay City,” he told the reporters.

Mayor Delos Reyes then commended the performance of his son in helping implement projects in the city.

Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante said they will not stop the younger Delos Reyes from stepping. He, however, said that corruption is not the issue with the city administrator.

“For us the city administrator (John Yre) has no respect for the elected city officials,” he added.

The vice mayor blamed the city administrator for the strained relationship between the mayor and the City Council.

On the threat to file abuse of authority and economic sabotage cases against City Council, Villarante said, “It is his right. But we also want to warn the mayor, his son and the advisers. It’s not just the office of the mayor that can file a case.”

“We, the City Council can also file charges against them. If he would file cases then we also have a lot to file against him,” he said.
