LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Free Zumba sessions, fairs, and coastal cleanups are among the activities that the Lapu-Lapu City government will hold to celebrate this September as 123rd Civil Service Month.

Lawyer Danilo Almendras, the Lapu-Lapu City Administrator, said that among the activities that they had prepared would be the hosting of free Zumba sessions every Friday of the month.

The Zumba session will be open to all offices and departments of the city hall.

Other activities for the month

Almendras said that they would also be conducting free blood pressure check-ups for all city hall employees, Kadiwa Agri-Fishery Fair on September 15, a coastal clean-up on September 16, and “Libreng Serbisyo” for city hall employees on September 22.

During the city’s flag-raising ceremony on Monday, September 4, Representative Cindi King-Chan of the Lone District of Lapu-Lapu City reminded city hall employees that their purpose in working at the city hall was to serve the public, especially Oponganons.

“We are called to serve, otherwise we are of no business being here,” Chan said.

City hall employees told: Treat clients well

She also reminded city hall employees to treat well their clients and avoid scolding them.

“We are not here para mag-power tripping, para to feed our hungry egoes, we are not here to sit idly and do nothing, or mangasaba sa publiko nga mangayo og serbisyo nato,” she added.

BSKE candidates challenged

Chan also challenged aspiring Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Election candidates to use these positions as an opportunity to serve.

“Make the position you aspire as an opportunity for you to serve and the office you will soon hold as a vehicle or a catalyst for change,” she said.

This year’s theme of Civil Service Month celebration is “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes.”
