CEBU CITY, Philippines — The multi-titled Ritmik Jimnastiks La Sugbo gymnastics team is planning to join more contests this year after raking in 19 gold medals in the recently concluded Mindanao Wide-Davao Goldentwist Gymnastics Competition held last September 8-10, 2023 in Davao City.

The Cebu-based gymnastics team of head coach Darlne Dela Pisa stamped class in the Davao competition as they also added five bronze medals and one silver in their campaign.

Impressively, they did all these despite their lack of quality equipment and training venue.

“Naa mi karon nag training sa University of Cebu (UC) main campus. It’s still a big challenge for us, especially nako [as] head coach sa UC ug sa La Sugbo team nga kuwang pa gyud among equipment,” said Dela Pisa.

“Pero mangita lang gyud mi ug paagi para dili mi ma zero inig duwa namo sa lain nga lugar,” she added.

Dela Pisa is the mother of Daniela Reggie Dela Pisa, who won a gold medal in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Dela Pisa’s gymnasts won 16 gold medals in the rhythmic gymnastics and three more in the artistic gymnastics.

She plans to field the same gymnasts in their upcoming competitions, including the 6th MK Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition in Bacolod City.

They are also competing in a major gymnastics tilt in Manila in November.

“Starting October, November, all the way to December, naa mi competitions apilan, so sige na mi ug training karon sa akong mga gymnasts,” she said.
