CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles clinched their second straight win by outlasting the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Green Lancer, 67-58, in their game in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) high school basketball on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Magis Eagles, the reigning Cesafi high school champs, bucked a 13-point deficit in the third period with a pivotal final period comeback.

Cesafi high school finals MVP Jared Bahay led the Magis Eagles comeback by scoring nine points in the crucial minutes of the final period and finished his game with an impressive 26 points.

The Baby Green Lancers of head coach Jun Pepito were in command in the first three quarters. They entered the final period with an 11-point cushion, 53-44, with Roderick Cambarijan clicking on all cylinders, scoring 13 of his 26-point outing.

However, the Magis Eagles of multi-titled coach Rommel Rasmo came alive in the fourth period after unloading 20 points, while limiting UV to only four points, to turn the table completely and grab their second win in three games.

The victory put SHS-AdC at the No. 3 in the high school team standings and tied their record with Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons, 2-1.

Meanwhile, UV suffered its third straight defeat and remained winless in the league.

Alden Paul Cainglet scored 14 points and Rezald Dacalos added 10 markers in the Magis Eagles’ victory, while UV’s John Dela Torre had 13 points in their losing efforts.
