LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu- Balamban town in northwestern Cebu is expected to experience an economic boom if the planned transfer of the seat of the provincial government of Cebu pushes through.

“In fact, kadtong pag-announce ini ni Gov nga adto ibalhin ang kapitolyo, daghan na kaayong mga investors nga ganahan mosulod. So you all know kung daghan ug investors mosulod, so daghang tawo ang makatrabaho,” Balamban Mayor Alex Binghay said.

Earlier, the provincial capitol reported that the site development where the new capitol building would be situated has already reached 73 percent.

The new capitol building would be situated in Barangay Cambuhawe, Balamban.

Among the developments that were constructed in the area was the access road going to the site.

Binghay added that relocating the Provincial Capitol Building to his town would also be advantageous to its neighboring towns, and would also decongest Cebu City.

“One is decongesting Cebu City, kay sa law, ang kapitolyo naa diha unya tanan nga naa sa probinsya moanha diha, nya gamay kaayo ang kadalanan nato. And duol na sa probinsya, para nako gud mas maayo man gud na ibutang ang seat sa provincial government sa part sa province. Cebu City was once part of the province, but they are independent now,” he added.

Aside from this, Binghay is also hoping that the development would also help the Balamban in its endeavor to become a city.

“If it happens, it happens. Kung mahitabo na malipay pod mi, pero kung dili, okay ra gihapon,” he said.

Balamban, is a 1st class municipality in the province of Cebu. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 95,136.      /rcg
