MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – The long wait is over.

The National Housing Authority (NHA) is set to release the first tranche of the cash aid to Super Typhoon Odette victims in Mandaue City on Monday, October 16.  The distribution will continue for three more days or until Oct. 19.

This was announced on Thursday, Oct. 12, by Mandaue City Lone District Rep. Emmarie Lolypop Ouano-Dizon.

“I am happy to inform nga per information from the National Housing Authority, the first tranche of the Typhoon Odette Cash Assistance will be given on October 16-19,” Ouano-Dizon said in a statement.

“Bisan pa man kini dugay na unta nga gikinahanglan, magpasalamat gihapon kita sa National Government sa pagbutang ug pondo niini. Atong gilauman nga makatabang gihapon kini sa manga Mandauehanons,” she added.

However, Dizon said that she is yet to determine the number of beneficiaries who will receive the cash aid starting on Oct. 16 and the amount of the assistance that they will get.

Ouano-Dizon said the funds will be sourced from the Emergency Housing Assistance (EHAP) of NHA which aims to provide financial aid to families whose homes were affected by natural or human-induced calamities such as typhoons, landslides or fire incidents to help them rebuild their homes and provide them with an opportunity for a fresh start.

The second tranche of the cash assistance is scheduled after the Barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan elections on October 30, after the ban on the release of public funds for aid would have been lifted, she added.

Super Typhoon Odette  ravaged parts of the Visayas, including Mandaue City in Cebu Province, last Dec. 16, 2021.

Then President Rodrigo Duterte placed the affected regions under a state of calamity through Proclamation No. 1267 to hasten the government’s rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.

Under the Special EHAP, NHA was mandated to provide cash assistance to help affected families rebuild their houses, regardless of the extent of damage sustained. / dcb
