Earl Kaiser Ducay, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on July 13, 2023, two months after his birthday. He complained of back pains, joint pains, fatigue and episodic fever. Worried by these distressing symptoms his mother brought him to a physician for consultation. A complete blood count was performed and result showed counts not in the normal range. Because of the alarming result his doctor advised them to go to Cebu for further medical assessment. Earl was then admitted at a private hospital and undergo blood transfusion because of his low blood counts.  A bone marrow aspiration was done and findings revealed he has acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common form of leukemia found in children.

Leukemia is a cancer of the white blood cells, the cells that help fight infection and help protect the body against disease. It develops in the bone marrow, the spongy center of most bones that produces blood cells and platelets. Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia is a serious condition but with the advances in treatments, including long-term chemotherapy this terrifying disease can be cured. The life-saving treatment will run for 3 years and comes with a hefty cost. Earl’s chemotherapy started immediately after diagnosis. He is now in the intensive phase of treatment that costs Fifteen Thousand Pesos (P15,000) per week.

Earl is a cheerful little boy and dreams big of becoming a firefighter. He loves playing blocks and solving puzzles. He is the only child of Mae and Edwin. Mae is a housewife and takes care of Earl while Edwin works as an elevator technician. Cancer is an expensive disease. The limited resources of the family can’t keep up with the unlimited needs of Earl. Thus, they are appealing for support from generous individuals to help them sustain the life-saving chemotherapy treatment of Earl.

Let us help Earl pursue his dream of becoming a firefighter. Like his doctor, Earl also wants to save lives.
