At least 204 registered persons with disabilities (PWDs) in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City received P1,000 cash at the Mabolo barangay hall from 7 a.m. to noon yesterday.
“This May, it would have been P2,000. But we gave P1,000 first. The Cebu city government will make up for the rest of the amount in December,” said Krugger Pineda, president of the PWD association in barangay Mabolo.
Not a few thought the amount was small.
“The (anti-depressant) medicine I take costs P2,000, which I expected to receive today, just like last year. It’s disappointing, but I appreciate that all ages can receive the assistance,” said 25-year-old Junjun Noval.
Norita Sumuli needed the P1,000 to pay for the medications of her son Manuel which costs P200 a day. Last year, the City Treasurer’s Office released P2,000 in May and P3,000 in December for the PWDs./Siliman University Intern Andrea D. Lim
