Blakeley’s Motorcare remains in hunt for outright semis
LED by Bryan Renejane and Brian Patiño, Batch 1996-Blakeley’s Motorcare stayed in the hunt for an outright semifinal berth after it posted a crucial 62-47 win over Batch 1988-Dewfoam last Tuesday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
Getting 10 points each from Renejane and Patiño, Batch 1996 ended its elimination round campaign with nine wins and four losses. Defending champion Batch 1999-BMC Hospital Systems/ Hainanese Delights has taken the first of two automatic semis seat after sweeping the 13-game elimination round.
Tournament format states that the top two teams after the eliminations will advance to the semis outright, while the number three to six teams will be twice-to-beat over their lower-ranked foes in the quarterfinals. The bottom four will be eliminated.
Apart from Batch 1996, three other teams are still in contention for the critical automatic semis berth.
Batch 2007-Chef Chang and Batch 1990s/2001-AJL Surplus both finished the eliminations with 9-4 (win-loss) records, while Batch 1980s/1990s/2011-Koi Herbal sports an 8-3 card with still have one game left.
Gregorio Aguilar scored 14 points and Erwin Yu had 10 points for Batch 1988, which dropped out of outright semis berth contention after tasting its fifth loss in 12 games.
In the other game, Batch 1997-Solane iStyle boosted its playoff bid by drubbing Batch 2006-1st ACY Shipping Corp./Cebu Regal Pension House, 66-51.
Aubrey Jones Ibones scattered 18 points, Jose Poligrates tallied 12 and Timothie Tan added 10 for Batch 1997, which improved to 5-7 (win-loss).
Gino Abella had a game-high 25 points while Nolsie Cisneros chipped in 13 for the eliminated Batch 2006, which finished its campaign with just one win against 12 losses.
