The Sugbo Bike Lanes Board tasked to implement the ordinance on shared priority bike lanes ordinance in Cebu City were introduced Tuesday morning.

Councilor Gerry Carillo heads the board as a representative of Mayor Michael Rama while Councilor Nida Cabrera is vice chairperson as head of the committee on environment.

Other members include Councilors Sisinio Andales, Nestor Archival Sr., Roberto Cabarrubias, Director Rafael Yap of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom),  Engr. Jose Marie Poblete of the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW),  head Kenneth Carmelita Enriquez of the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) and Regional Director Ador Canlas of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Representatives of bike groups like Chamy Comillas of SCYBRE, Clinton Gairanod of Cebu Mixed Bikes, Jay Garganera of Tindak Bisdak Cebu Folding Bike Society along with Ryan Yu of transport group CITRASCO and Robert Pangilinan of the business sector also sit in the board.

The board was formed five months after the approval of the bike lane ordinance.

The group has identified three major kinds of routes: commuter, recreational and tourist routes. A bike summit will be organized by the board together with bike groups in Dumanjug on June 20-21.

They will draft the board policies in relation to the ordinance as well as the specific guidelines in implementing the ordinance.

Among the prohibitions listed in the ordinance include obstruction of the shared lanes, biking under the influence of alcohol and doing exhibitions on the lanes. / with Intern Marc Eric Cosep, Cebu Technological University
