DOLE orders halt on project

By: Michelle Joy L. Padayhag July 09,2015 - 01:09 PM

THE regional Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) ordered a halt on construction of the FLB Corporate Center project at the Cebu Business Park last Tuesday.

“Most of its workers for exterior works like cladding and glass works were not wearing fulll body harnesses, hard hats and safety shoes. We were able to take pictures during the inspection,” Regional DOLE Director Exequiel Sarcauga said.

Representatives of FLB Corporate Center and AS Enriquez Engineering Consultancy were ordered to explain the violations on occupational safety and health requirements.

Last December 4  two workers of Sonyu Paint Specialist fell and died on the same project site.

A stoppage order was lifted last January 9 after corrective measures were done.

Other deficiencies observed during inspections are the absence of safety officer and first aid responder, no construction safety and health program and no approved methodology for metal cladding installation among others.

Luchel Taniza, DOLE-7’s information officer said the workers should be paid despite the halt on construction.
