Eight crew members of a fishing boat were arrested for entering the municipal waters of Tuburan town in northwestern Cebu on Tuesday morning.

SPO2 Alden Abay-abay of Tuburan Police said the men were released later that day after paying the penalties.

Based on a local ordinance, fishing in Tuburan’s municipal waters without a permit comes with a penalty of P120,000.

Abay-abay said the men tried to fish in the waters off barangay Camingawan without a permit from the municipal government.

Arrested were boat captain Noe Narciso and crew members Jason Olbena, Mark Gabriel, Edgardo Narciso, Elmar Sarcado, Jojo Chavez,  Jorame Baroc, and Reggie Ollada.

Tuburan police also seized from the boat 13 containers loaded with assorted fish worth about P20,000.

Abay-abay said a team led by Senior Inspector William Homoc took a motor banca to apprehend the boat’s crew.
