E-League All-Stars nip SHS-AdC Selection
The E-League All-Stars used a back-back breaking second-half assault to get past the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (AHS-AdC) Selection, 75-69, last Sunday in the All-Star Game of the 11th City Sports Club-Cebu (CSC-C) E-League for Basketball at the CSC-C Gym.
Ralph Belarmino of 24/7 shone the brightest in the squad composed of some of the league’s top players as he fired 17 markers, grabbed 12 rebounds, collected one assist and registered a steal to win the Best Player of the Game honors.
Accenture’s Archie Batua was also solid for the Sai Bacalso-coached E-League All-Stars after he finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Lexmark’s top big man Franco Cipriano had his own productive showing, tallying 13 points, 10 rebounds, one block and one assist.
Jade Seno of the Results Spartans was the fourth E-League All-Star scoring in twin digits with 10.
Coco Tualdes led SHS-AdC of coaches Marvin Caro and Francis Auquico with 15 points, while Jeremy Nacua added 11 markers.
SHS-AdC took a 36-31 lead at the turn but the E-League All-Stars found their bearings in the second half where they outscored their opponent, 44-33, to clinch the victory.
Apart from being a key contributor in the victory of the E-League All-Stars, Batua also made his presence felt in the side events of the All-Stars festivity.
Batua ruled the skills challenge by timing 31 seconds, beating first runner-up Elvin Wenceslao by a second. Dean Descallar settled for second runner-up with 49 seconds.
Batua then teamed up with Kyle Suerte in ruling the two-ball competition where the duo scored 59 points in the championship round.
Contact Solutions’ James Malalay and Carl Misahon wound up as first runner-up with 44 points followed by Elvin Wenceslao and Jan Cipres of 24/7 with 41 points.
Patrick Polinar and Joseph Esteban of Lexmark finished last with 29 points.
Gharde Malinao of Contact Solutions, on the other hand, emerged as the best shooter as he topped the three-point shootout by knocking down nine points in the final round.
Trailing Malinao was Cipres with seven points. Remir Figuracion finished with six points, followed by Blanes with five.
