San Francisco officials face Ombud plaint

A group of residents from San Francisco town, Camotes Islands yesterday filed a complaint against their local officials in relation to the alleged anomalous distribution of the Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA).

The complainants claimed that the respondents did not give them ESA from the Department of Social Welfare and Development although they too were victims of Supertyphoon Yolanda.

They said their houses were also listed by the respondents as “partially damaged”  although their shelters were totally ruined by the supertyphoon.

Named respondents were San Francisco Mayor Ely Arquillano, Municipal Social Welfare and Development head and 15 barangay captains of the municipality.

The complainants said the respondents chose who would receive the ESA.

In filing the complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman in the Visayas yesterday, they were accompanied by Councilor Edgardo Maningo who intends to run for vice mayor in next year’s elections.
