JVR to get Gullas as advisor if he wins

FORMER congressman Eduardo Gullas shouldn’t run for public office anymore because of his age, Talisay City Mayor Johnny de los Reyes said yesterday.

“He shouldn’t be joining the elections anymore because of his age. He cannot serve the Talisaynons well because of his physical limitations. He will be stressed,” said de los Reyes, who is seeking reelection next year.

Gullas, who lost to delos Reyes in 2013, will run anew for mayor of Talisay City. Also running for mayor is Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). Delos Reyes said Gullas would make a good adviser should he win again.

But Gullas said it would be awkward for him to serve as adviser to de los Reyes.

“He doesn’t want me to run because I might win. But if he won against me and Villarante, he’s going to get me as adviser. Don’t you think that’s quite awkward?” he told reporters in his office at the University of the Visayas.

“This isn’t a race. This is public service we are talking about. If he and Villarante can do it, then so can I,” he said.
