Insecticide-treated screens are being distributed as part of the government’s campaign against dengue fever. This week is “Brigada Para sa Kalinisan” week.

THREE government agencies will spearhead a nationwide clean-up campaign against dengue fever starting today until Nov. 8.

The campaign, called “Brigada Para sa Kalinisan,” aims to gather local community leaders, parents, teachers and students to work together in keeping the environment sanitized to prevent dengue in schools and communities.

“We have to join efforts to fight dengue just as we work together under the Brigada Eskwela. We can’t do this in just one area. It has to be simultaneous,” Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro, FSC was quoted as saying in Filipino in a statement.

At the forefront of the clean-up campaign are the Education, Health and Social Welfare departments.

Luistro said he has instructed Department of Education (DepEd) regional directors and school health nutrition personnel to coordinate with the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in identifying public schools with high dengue incidence.

These schools will receive insecticide-treated screens. So far, the DOH has distributed 20,000 treated screen rolls to selected public schools nationwide.

Health Secretary Janette Garin, for her part, reminded the public of the 4S strategy—search and destroy mosquitoes, seek early consultation, self-protective measures and say no to indiscriminate fogging.

“If we unite our efforts in cleaning our surroundings, we should be able to stop dengue,” she said.

As of October 3, the DOH said a total of 108,263 dengue cases have been reported nationwide. Most of the cases have victims from 5 to 14 years age group.
