Drivers not allowed to pick up passengers in terminals

Two tourist vans were apprehended by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) and Land Transportation Office (LTO-7) in separate areas last Saturday for picking up passengers, which they are not allowed to do.

The vans owned by Zeerazm and Cepudco were caught at the Compania Maritima and North Bus Terminal.

The Zeerazm van was apprehended at past 2 p.m. while the Cepudco van was caught at 7 p.m.

“Tourists vans are exclusive for tourists (local and international) only. They picked up passengers just like the Garage Terminal (GT) express vehicles,” said LTFRB-7 assistant information officer Emil Membrillas yesterday.
Membrillas said that GT express vehicles have specific points of destination from one place to another, while a tourist van can travel anywhere.

He said there was no problem with their franchises as tourist vans since these have been renewed recently.

The vans were impounded at the LTO impounding area in T. Padilla, Cebu City.

Membrillas said the operator will have to pay P200,000 under the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) 2014-01 to claim the van.
