Alcoseba wins fifth gold, 12th for Cebu Province
Raven Faith Alcoseba continued to help Cebu Province in the medal standings, chipping in another gold medal in the swimming event of the 2015 Batang Pinoy National Finals yesterday at the Cebu City Aquatic Center.
Alcoseba capped off her stint in swimming with a gold in the 200-meter individual medley yesterday, bringing her total up to five in the five-day multi-sporting event. Her performance helped hike Cebu Province’s record to 12 gold medals with three more days of competition.
Other gold medalists for Cebu Province yesterday were Sam Gilbert Rodrigo of Cebu Province (100m hurdles), Rian Marco Tirol (100m breaststroke swimming) and the dancesports team contributed four. The gold medal winners for Cebu Province in dancesports were the pairs of Hezekiah Sobrevega and Frances Mae Marie Valmoria (juvenile C standard), Crispin Sato and Yeddah Marie Castañares (Junior C Standard), Francis Isaia Diluvio and Kim Jocson (Junior D Standard), and Nigel John Angel and Shadelle Niña Hernandez (Juvenile D Standard).
But it was the vaunted Dancesports Team Cebu City (DTCC) who finished with a bang in dancesports as it bagged five gold medals at the Social Hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol.
The five golds towed Cebu City’s medal tally to a total of 11.
Winners for Cebu City were the pairs of Jake Corro and Anndreah Capangpangan (Junior A Latin), John Lloyd Leyson and Ouie Selene Rendon (Juvenile A Latin and Standard), Gylle Niño Diluvio and Julia Paz Branzuela (Junior A standard), and Niño Salve and Jannah Marie Pugoy (Juvenile C Latin dance).
Cebu City’s Samantha Limos also won a gold in style, breaking the 2014 record of Leyte’s Karen Janario (12.53 secs.) in the 100m dash by setting a new record of 12.48 seconds at the Cebu City Sports Center oval. Her record-breaking performance was the first gold for Team Cebu City in the track and field event.
Joining Team Cebu City’s gold medal winners were jins Aidaine Laxa, Cheyena de la Fuente and Johan Concepcion.
Two gold medals also came from the swimming event for Team Cebu City courtesy of Jo Lander Molina (200m backstroke) and Justine Reign Garrido (100m breaststroke).
QUEZON STILL LEADS
Aside from the 12 gold medals, Cebu Province also has five silver medals and three bronze medals. Cebu City’s 11 golds come with eight silver medals and three bronze medals.
Quezon City still leads in the unofficial medal standings with 26 gold medals, 18 silvers and eight bronze medals. Most of their medals were from the three-day swimming competition that ended yesterday.
Meanwhile, in women’s beach volleyball, Cebu Province’s Chriszelle Anne and Anne Krizia Caasi advanced to the championship round after edging out Tagum City-B, 21-11, 21-7, and Team Cebu City-A, 21-10, 21-6 at Fort San Pedro.
In volleyball, Team Cebu City II remained unbeaten in the women’s division after scraping by General Santos City, 25-17, 21-25, 25-18, and Cebu Province 25-23, 25-21 while Team Cebu City -I routed Iligan City, 25-23, 25-15, and Makati City, 25-18, 25-18. Team Cebu City’s men’s volleyball team I lost to Pangasinan, 25-13, 25-16.
Cebu Province also barged into the winning column after thrashing Mandaue City, 25-17, 28-26, while Danao City remained winless in three assignments after losing to Quezon City 25-17, 25-8, yesterday.
