A MAN was critically injured after he jumped from the Marcelo Fernan Bridge in Mandaue City yesterday afternoon.

Police said a slash wound in his wrist raised the possibility that the man had  tried to commit suicide before the leap.

A relative told police the man was suffering from a nervous breakdown.

At about  2 p.m.  a security guard  of a government-owned property reported to a traffic officer about the presence of a man trying to jump from the bridge.

Glenn Antigua, head of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue, alerted the Opao Police Station. When police went to the site, they didn’t find anyone there.

About 40 minutes after they left, police received a report that a man had jumped from the 25-meter high railings of the bridge.  The man was found bloodied and slumped on the ground. He was  brought to a hospital in Cebu City.
