Hometown bet triumphant in Mano Amon Run

Danao City’s Jeboy Magbologtong and Michelle Beboso of Lapu-Lapu City emerged the fastest runners in the longest-running footrace in Cebu, the 37th Halad Kang Mano Amon Run, yesterday at the Durano-Macapagal Boardwalk in Danao City, northern Cebu.

Magbologtong, a veteran ultra-marathoner finished the 12-kilometer race in 49 minutes and 52 seconds to win the men’s title.

Beboso, on the other hand, breasted the finish line in 1:06.51 to take the women’s crown.

Robert Daang trailed Magbologtong to place second with a time of 49:59 followed by James Roy Roble, who clocked   51:41.

Marlette Aurber Lusanta finished second to Beboso with a time of 1:14.23 while Leste Alerta rounded off the top three finishers with a time of 1:18.35.

Magbologtong’s brother, Regie, topped the men’s 6k college division with a time of 22:16, beating Marcelo Quimco Jr.,  who finished second after registering a time of 29:55. Emar Maglasang claimed  third spot with a time of 30:29.  Magbologtong also topped the same division last year.

Renna Rose Curaza joined Magbologtong on the podium as she dominated the distaff side of the 6k college division by logging a time of 30:49.

Another Magbologtong,  Rechelle,  finished second with a time of 35:07 while Bea Nadine Garcia placed third, clocking 36:21.

Richard Villarama and Jean Kaye Capotulan topped the 6k high school division by finishing the race in 11:54 and 15:30, respectively.

In the elementary division of the 6k race, Limart Almia (14:38) and Diosanny Hermoso (15:37) were crowned the fastest runners.

Harold Kim Guiao and Margie Ceniza were the first placers of the 6k Danao City Residents category after clocking 22:13 and 21:48, respectively.

In the 3k Danao City Residents category, winners were Clienmark Antolijao (13:32) and Jessa Mae Devido (17:20).

More than a hundred runners joined the footrace organized by the Danao City Sports Commission to celebrate  the birth anniversary of Danao City’s grand old man, Ramon “Mano Amon” Durano Sr., whose birthday is today.
