Higher tax collection in Cordova

The municipal government of Cordova said its real property tax collection increased by around 50 percent to P15.59 million last year from P10.32 million in 2014.

Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy attributed the increase to their offer to provide free land titling for diligent taxpayers.

“Getting a lot title is free as long as they pay their property taxes,” Sitoy said.

Councilor Nicolas Tura, for his part, credited the computerization of their tax collection system for the increase.

“The process was really slow when collection was still done manually. It’s faster now and we can easily identify the delinquent taxpayers,” Tura said.

Municipal treasurer Jaime Sumagang traced the increase to the development of at least 15 subdivisions and two memorial parks in the town.

As a result, business permit collection also increased to P2.43 million last year from P1.85 million in 2014.

Sitoy said the higher collection reflects the confidence of investors in Cordova.
