A RAPE suspect, who bolted from the detention cell in the Carmen Police Station, was wounded in a shootout with pursuing policemen.

Carmen police and Danao City’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team caught up with suspect Dionisio Duterte Castro in his brother’s house in Danao City, northern Cebu at around 11 p.m. on Saturday, less than 24 hours after he escaped from detention.

Castro, who allegedly shot at the police, was wounded in the abdomen. He is now recuperating at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, where he lies handcuffed to his bed.

SPO2 Simplicio Gibo, desk officer of Carmen Police, told Cebu Daily News Castro escaped from the detention cell he shared with two other detainees by removing one of the iron grills near the ceiling and jumping out of the building.

The suspect had been charged with raping a minor at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 25 in Danao City.
