AFTER launching its reconfigured cinema in digital format last December 2013, Oriente Theater, the oldest cinema in Cebu, is now at par with its counterparts as it now ushers in the newest technology used in the movie showing industry.
From being a 1100-seat cinema, Oriente is now downsized to two movie houses, the Cinema 1 which can accommodate 252 moviegoers and the Cinema 2 which can accommodate 188 moviegoers. This new size is said to be more ideal than that of the bigger size considering the cost-effectiveness of the latter.
With the perturbing issues and queries on safety and security that upset moviegoers, Oriente Theater has taken matters into its hands as it is now protected by their security personnel and night visioned cameras operating on a 24-hour basis. For only Php150, one can now enjoy a better, comfortable, and modernized movie experience.
Aside from movie viewing, Oriente Theater also caters to corporate events, stage plays, and cultural tours.
Established in 1895, the theater, initially called as Teatro Junquera, was a popular venue for Cebuanos to enjoy various literary-musical programs, operas, stage plays, vaudeville, and early silent movies.
Rebuilt after the Second World War, Oriente Theater is one of the pioneering cinemas here in Cebu. It is now under the management of Colon Heritage Realty Corp. It stands firm as a testimony of the people’s resilience and passion in celebrating life and culture.
