A five-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his three-year-old playmate using an airgun that they found while playing in Carcar City, southern Cebu last Thursday afternoon.
The victim suffered a bullet wound in the forehead. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead by the attending physician, police said.
Cebu Daily News are withholding the names of the two boys for being minors.
PO1 Vernon Gellicania, investigator of the Carcar City Police Station, said the two boys were playing in an abandoned shanty when they found the airgun, which was covered with sacks.
The two boys toyed with the airgun. Later, the five-year-old boy pointed the gun at his playmate’s forehead then pressed the trigger.
Police said the five-year-old panicked when the gun went off and saw his playmate fall to the ground.
The boy rushed home and informed his parents about the incident.
Police said the airgun was not recovered.
An investigation will be done to find out who owns the airgun, police said.
The five-year-old boy was turned over to social workers, police said.
