Over a hundred players from all over Cebu and neighboring provinces took part in last Saturday’s second Badminton For A Cause tournament, proof that charity is not lost on  the region’s badminton players.

Organized by the Sunday Badminton Group (SBG) at the Metrosports in Lahug, the event drew a sizeable amount which organizers will be donating today to a chosen charity for the elderly,  tournament organizer Susan Orongan said.

While it was not spared of the usual delays due to multiple entries, participants were generally pleased with the outcome of the event.

Among the most watched and applauded final matches was the Mixed Doubles Level E where the veteran moves and power of former varsity player, Joe James Taboada proved more effective than the strategic play of Carl Bernard Bejasa, a budding badminton sensation from theUniversity of San Carlos-North Campus.

Their partners, Marsha Malagar and Dr. Karina Tecson, respectively, matched their partners’ skills, setting up good plays to keep the match tight. In the end, the Taboada-Malagar tandem bagged the crown after a lung-busting, three-set duel of wits.
