A police asset was killed while his common-law wife was wounded in an early morning ambush in Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City, on Thursday.
SPO4 Rogelio Cañete Jr. of the homicide section of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said Luisito Manzanares, 59, suffered two fatal wounds in the head.
He said Manzanares’ common-law wife was also shot and was brought to a private hospital.
Cañete said investigators were looking into the possibility that Manzanares was killed because of his work as a police asset.
Manzanares and his common-law wife were heading home to Barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City from Carbon public market past 5 a.m. when a man on board a motorcycle blocked their path along Borromeo Street at the corner of Sanciangko Street in Barangay Pahina Central.
The perpetrator then pulled out a gun and shot Manzanares twice in the head before shooting the woman.
