A BIGGER and better Tayud Fiesta Futsal Cup will unfold on April 2-3 in Consolacion town, northern Cebu.

This after organizers from Tayud United FC and Barangay Tayud, Consolacion made huge changes in the annual futsal tournament held in line with the celebration of Tayud’s fiesta.

After drawing the support of the municipal government of Consolacion following last year’s huge success, the organizers of the former Tayud All-Women’s Fiesta Futsal Cup decided to add several categories and another playing venue.

Aside from that, they are also now sanctioned by the Cebu Football Association (CFA).

The new categories are mixed under-12, men’s open and the girls’ under-18.

Last year, the categories were only the ladies open and the girls’ under-15.

“The municipal government of Consolacion saw the huge success we earned last year which encouraged them to support our noble cause because this tournament is also for the benefit of Kythe Foundation Inc. We hope that we can duplicate or somehow surpass the success we had in this year’s tournament,” organizer Ulysses

Birondo said during yesterday’s official launching of the tournament at the Butterbean Desserts and Cafe in Escario Street, Cebu City.

Joining him in yesterday’s event were Consolacion town councilors Boy Tibon and Julius Oyos Alegado along with CFA administrator Emmanuel Dumanguas, Tayud FC coach Bingky Estrada, Kythe Foundation Inc’s Shalom Bernales, Dr. Joannes Alegado and Tayud councilor Franco Ibale.

The two venues for the event are the Tayud Elementary School gymnasium and the Barangay sports complex of Tayud.

“We were amazed that football can be played indoors and because of that we are planning to introduce this sport to other barangays of Consolacion as part of our sports program,” said Alegado.

Noted teams like the defending champions in last year’s U15 girls Talisay Razkals, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), Barili FC, Consolacion FC, host team Tayud United FC , San Roque Football Club, Team Suzuki, among others have signed up for the tournament.

For more information about the upcoming tournament, one can contact Birondo at 0932-294-7945.
