POPE Francis is set to sign the decree for the canonization of Blessed Mother Teresa of Kolkata on March 15, Vatican Radio reported.

The report said the Pontiff will hold an ordinary public consistory of cardinals in the Vatican on the said date, where he would sign the decree for the sainthood of Mother Teresa and four others.

The dates and venue of sainthood are also expected to be announced at the consistory, the report said.

Pope Francis cleared the path for the beloved late nun to be elevated to sainthood last year when he recognized Mother Teresa’s second miracle for her intercession of a Brazilian man with multiple brain tumors.

Mother Teresa was conferred the title “Blessed” in October 2003 in a fast-tracked beatification process by the late Pope St. John Paul II.

A miraculous healing of an Indian woman with a tumor in her abdomen was attributed to her.

Known for her charity work with the poor, sick, and the dying in the Indian city of Kolkata, the “Saint of the Gutters” was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

She died in 1997 at the age of 87.
