Gullas to file libel case vs Mayor JVR’s son

FORMER Cebu governor and representative Eduardo Gullas yesterday said he will file a libel case on Tuesday next week against Talisay City administrator John Yre de los Reyes, a son of Talisay City Mayor Johnny de los Reyes.

Gullas gave this statement during a press briefing yesterday where he announced the scheduled hearing of a libel case on Monday against Clifford de los Reyes, another son of Mayor De los Reyes.

Gullas filed the libel case against Clifford last year.

“He (Clifford) was saying Tabunok Public Market lot has been sold by me to the Chinese and that P30 million has been pocketed by me. So I ordered my lawyers to file a case against him,” Gullas said.

Gullas said he decided to file the case against John Yre after he learned that he allegedly called him a “thief” in a radio program some time last month.

Gullas said he didn’t personally hear the younger De los Reyes calling him that name, but his lawyers informed him about De los Reyes statement.

John Yre has a block-time program in DyRC in the evenings.

Aven Piramide, Gullas’ lawyer, said a team of lawyers is now finalizing the papers for filing a case against John Yre de los Reyes.

Piramide said they will file the case on Tuesday.

Gullas said it’s his first time to file a libel case in his 38 years of public service against a member of the opposing party.

“Wala naman gani ko ni consider who he is unsa iyahang position. Ang ako lang nga it is (smearing) my humble reputation which I protected all my life. Unya yam-ang yam-angan lang aning tawhana (I didn’t even consider his position. What I considered is that he is smearing my humble reputation which I protected all my life. Then he would easily smear it)?” Gullas said.
