The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors defeated defending champions Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras, 7-0, last Sunday at the UC-METC Field to secure the top spot in the 3rd Cebu Flag Football League Inter-Collegiate Tournament.

Both teams were tied at the top prior to the game with identical 5-0 (win-loss) slates until the Warriors came up with the victory in the last day of the elimination round.

Both teams will now look forward to the playoff round which starts April 3.

In the other game, the University of San Jose–Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars trounced Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU), 19-14.

CDU bounced back in the day’s last game, posting a 24-6 blowout against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats.

Meanwhile, tournament manager Emily Rellita said the games were better this weekend compared to the other week where players in the USC-Velez  game were involved in trash-talking.

Rellita said the players seemed to have learned their lesson after being warned by the tournament organizers.

“In fairness [to them], behaved na ang mga tawo karon  (they were behaved this time),” she said.

The organizers threatened to have the USC–Velez game forfeited because USC players were allegedly  trash-talking their opponents and organizers.

The Warriors won that game, 18-14.
