A seaman brought his family to his hometown in Santander, Cebu for a vacation, which ended up in tragedy.

Modesto Juguilon, 52 and his 15-year-old son Aldrich were killed after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a passenger bus past 10 a.m. on Thursday along the national highway of Barangay Looc, Santander town, about 134 km south of here.

The two, who were not wearing helmets, died on the spot due to severe head injuries, said PO3 Noel Estender, investigator of the Santander police station.

Rogelio Baran, driver of Ceres bus (plate number 529 CCE) was detained at the Santander police station pending filing of charges of reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide.

The Juguilons were from Marikina.

Modesto wanted his family to visit his hometown in Sitio Tagaytay, Barangay Poblacion in Santander after he disembarked from an international vessel.

Modesto was driving a new Honda Wave motorcycle with his son as passenger. They were heading to the house of Modesto’s sister in Barangay Looc, about a kilometer away from where they were staying.

Modesto was about to make a left turn since his sister’s house was on the other side of the road when they were hit by the bus.

But Estender said the Ceres bus  was cruising behind the motorcycle as it was heading to the Santander terminal from Cebu City.

Bus driver Rogelio Baran claimed that the motorcycle suddenly stopped to make a left turn.

He said he tried to avoid hitting the motorcycle but the bus still rammed into the motorcycle which was thrown several meters away due to the impact.###
