THE presence of a banner containing the words “Mayday” that was hung at the control tower of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) alarmed both pilots and passengers this morning.

A SWAT team and Air Force personnel were sent to the area to take down the banner and other banners that hung facing the runway.

Rafael Tatlonghari, acting area manager of CAAP, said the banners were part of a nationwide protest by their office against the disallowance on their bonuses and incentives by the Commission on Audit (COA).
