Re-electionist Sen. Tito Sotto and vice presidential candidate Gringo Honasan underwent a drug test at the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) as part of their campaign sortie in Cebu City on Thursday morning.

The two officials were accompanied by basketball player Mark Pingris and variety show host Vic Sotto. “This is not a challenge to all other candidates but to set as an example,” said Sotto, when asked about his reason for his drug test.

He said they chose PRO-7 to conduct the drug test since Cebu is the home of his grandparents and Central Visayas has been on the limelight due to illegal drug operations.

Honasan told reporters in jest that he only followed Sotto’s lead. Sotto and Honasan went to the office of Chief Supt. Patrocinio Commendador, PRO-7 chief, who was attending an election security conference at the time.

Honasan and Sotto were received by Chief Supt. Sheldon Jacaban, deputy regional director for administration of PRO-7.

Officers of the regional Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted the urine sample tests whose results will be known before 5 pm Thursday.

Sotto and Honasan are scheduled to meet with urban poor leaders in barangay Pasil, Cebu City and visit the Don Bosco Youth Center.
