Filipino triathletes to compete in Ironman Vietnam

ALMOST a hundred Filipino triathletes headed by the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines defending Filipino elite champion August Benedicto and pro Filipina Monica Torres will compete in tomorrow’s Ironman 70.3 Vietnam.

The race is organized by the Philippine-based Sunrise Events Inc. of Wilfred Steven Uytengsu. This is the same organizing company responsible for the upcoming Cobra Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championships that will be held at the Shangri-la’s Mactan Resort and Spa this August.

Sunrise Events. Inc (SEI) general manager Princess Galura, who is now in Vietnam to manage the race, said a total of 97 Filipino triathletes will compete in the 1.9k swim, 40k bike and 21k run event.

Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines defending champion Tim Reed of Australia leads the list of contenders in the pro division. He is joined in the distaff side by Caroline Steffen of Switzerland.
