Margot reports to police refusal of some village chiefs to return city-issued vehicles
Acting Cebu City Mayor Margot Osmeña went to Cebu City Police Office on Wednesday morning to report the refusal of 40 barangay officials to return their city- issued service vehicle for inventory purposes.
She arrived at the City Investigation and Detection Management Branch (CIDMB) office inside the CCPO headquarters along Gorordo Avenue in Cebu City about 10:30 a.m.
She then handed a list to Supt. Aileen Recla, the CIDMB chief, which identified the village chiefs who had yet to return the government-issued vehicles.
Osmeña said such an act was in violation of Republic Act 1060, an act that increases the penalty for Malversation of Public Funds or Property.
The acting mayor has issued a memorandum, ordering the return of all city issued vehicles so these would be inventoried.
“Some department heads have returned and asked the vehicles back and we give it to them after the inventory,” she said.
But several barangay captains including Tisa barangay captain and Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president Philip Zafra refused to heed her memo.
Osmeña said she went to the CCPO because she wanted the matter recorded on the police blotter.
But she would not say if she intended to file a case against those who didn’t comply with her memorandum.
“We will cross the bridge when we get there,” she said.
