LAPU-LAPU City Hall installed security cameras in its streets starting late last month to monitor not only traffic but any incidents of criminality that may occur in these areas.

The P12 million project consists of 45 high definition security cameras and will be undertaken by Automation and Security Inc.

Andy Berame, head of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO), said the cameras were installed at major intersections.

These cameras could zoom up to 36 times and can detect the vehicle’s plate numbers and other identification marks or color even at nighttime, he said.

“These cameras serves as deterrent to crimes, help monitor the traffic flow and make the people especially the tourist to feel safe in the city,” Berame said.

Seven security cameras were installd at the Mandaue-Mactan bridge while others were distributed at the Marcelo Fernan Bridge area, Mactan Export Processing Zone in barangay Ibo and Maximo Patalinjug Avenue in barangay Basak, among others.
