6 outgoing Lapu councilors recognized

OUTGOING councilors of Lapu-Lapu City were given recognition during the council’s last session of the 13th Sangguning Panlungsod at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall last Wednesday.

Councilors Queenie Amman, Eduardo Cuizon, Alexander Gestopa Jr., Efren Herrera, Florito Pozon and Francisco Senirpida were each given a plaque of recognition from the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Councilor Amman, chairperson of the Committee on Women and Children and vice chairperson of the Committee on Tourism and Sports, has served three terms or an equivalent of nine years starting from the administration of former mayor Arturo Radaza.

Councilor Cuizon served as the chairman of the Committee on Education and Transportation. He was also chairman of the Philippine Councilor’s League Central Visayas.

Councilor Gestopa served as councilor for 18 years starting from the administration of the late mayor Maximo Patalinjug. He was the chairman of the Committee on Environment.

Councilor Efren Herrera, who chaired the Committee on Good Government, served as a public servant for 18 years, including his stint as congressman.

Lawyer Florito Puzon, who chaired the Committee on Laws and Infrastructure, served three terms as councilor.

Lawyer Francisco Senirpida, who chaired the Committee on Human Resource has served two terms and did not seek reelection due to health reasons.

The councilors expressed gratitude to the former and present officials of the city and to all the people who made it possible for them to be in office.

They also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and were glad of the contribution they had made for the city.

Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong thanked each of them for their undying commitment and efforts which brought betterment to the people of Lapu-Lapu City.

Mayor Paz Radaza in her speech also expressed gratitude to the Honorable body for a job well done in the past three years. “It has been a remarkable journey for our beloved Lapu-Lapu City,” she said.

She said, that big companies and businesses are pouring in millions of investments in the city which created jobs for the Oponganons and that the economy and tourism industry is booming thus opening the way for the city to host many international events.

“We have accomplished many things together and this Council has played an important role in the development of this city. This Honorable Body has done well in passing ordinances and resolutions on efficient fiscal management and in protecting the best interests of our people.” Radaza said.

She added that their efforts and their fruits will definitely not end yesterday as they witnessed the last session of the 13th Sangguniang Panlungsod, and “the city and its people will continue to cherish and benefit from it even beyond the last strike of the gavel yesterday.”
